Calpurnia's Dream will have its inital performances in the Winter of 2012. Your support of our artistic endeavors is greatly appreciated. We would love for you to join as for an evening of passionate theater. We will be posting our upcoming performances at venues around New York, as well as festivals around the country.
Calpurnia's Dream
Intuition. Passion. Communication. Intimacy. Personal. Public.
Calpurnia's dream was an intimate message to her husband. The dream was also a public outcry to the people of Rome. We believe in the power of theater to reach out to citizens of the world, and to do this artists need to delve into their conciousness.
Calpurnia dreamed a pinnacle was tumbling down.
Lesson in Dead Language, Adrienne Kennedy
My conciousness as an artist was awakened by the writing of Adrienne Kennedy.This line from her short play, Lesson in Dead Language, intrigued me as a student theater director. Further, the study of "dead language" is every theater students "entree" into a professional theatrical career.
Awakening the 'imaginative unconcious' of both the artist and the public through theatrical interpretations of texts, stories, and plays, Calpurnia's Dream provides theatergoers with an unforgettable artistic experience. Calpurnia's prophetic dream about her husband, as well as the future of her country is embedded in the philosophy and mission of our theater collective. At our core is a basic belief in the wisdom of human intuition and bringing that conciousness into our daily lives. We believe in the literal dream, the prophetic dream, and the impossible dream. And finally, we believe in thinking outside of the box, self-definition, and using theater as a space to dramatize and explore the posssibilty of multiple realities.
